The Evolution of Foreign Direct Investment
The inward foreign direct investment (FDI) balance to Bosnia and Herzegovina increased by over 20 times between 2000 and 2022, rising from around $450 million to approximately $9.323 billion, an increase of about $8.873 billion during the mentioned period, with an average annual of $403.3 million.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's outward foreign investment has been relatively stable from 2010 to 2022, with a very slight increase of about $5 million over 12 years, rising from $700 million to only $705 million. There was a significant jump during the first ten years of the period, where its balance increased to about $700 million in 2010 from almost zero in 2000.
Regarding the annual inward investment flows to Bosnia and Herzegovina during the period 2018-2022, it is noticeable that they took a downward trend during the first half of the period, decreasing from $581 million in 2018 to $429 million in 2020. They resumed an upward trend steadily during the second half of the period, reaching $661 million in 2022.
Bosnian investment flows outward have been continuously declining since 2019.
