The Evolution of Foreign Direct Investment
The value of Romania's inward foreign direct investment (FDI) increased nearly tenfold between 2000 and 2010, rising from $6.953 billion to $68.699 billion. It further grew at an average rate of 69% between 2010 and 2022, reaching approximately $115.980 billion.
Romania's outward FDI stock also multiplied more than 17 times between 2000 and 2010, increasing from $136 million to $2.327 billion. Between 2010 and 2022, it grew at a rate of 75% to reach around $4.079 billion.
Regarding the annual flows of inward and outward FDI during the period from 2018 to 2022, inward investment flows showed an increasing trend except for the year 2020, reaching their highest value in 2022 at $11.273 billion.
Outward investments also increased, except for the year 2020, with the highest value recorded in 2022 at $1.135 billion.
